Final Thoughts...

I think web 2.0 has thought me a lot... and was more helpful than I thought. I would have never tried most of these activities on my own and I am glad that I was given an opportunity to learn them. As I librarian I do feel it is important to keep up with new technologies to better serve the public and web 2.0 has made me a little more knowledgeable about what is out there. Overall I had a pretty positive experience.

Finding new feeds

I found Google Reader pretty easy to use, the Google Reader help page actually helped a lot. I added going green topics to my Google Reader. I tried Technorati but I found it to be a little more confusing to use.

Discovering feeds on our catalog and website

How do you think patrons will respond to these technologies?
I think once patrons become more familiar with these technologies they will find them very useful. However, those who are unfamiliar, might have a difficult time figuring out how it all works. I know it took me some time to get use to.

The catalog and website RSS feeds can help serve the public better because its right there and you don't have to search for it.

What are RSS feed readers?

This activity was probably my least favorite...I found it really confusing. However, once I opened my own account it started to make more sense. I can see that RSS can be a big time saver...instead of going to each webpage for updates, its nice to have it saved all in one spot.

Craigslist

I think Craigslist is very useful, you can pretty much find anything on their such as jobs, apartments, pets, etc... the posting that I found was under pets in the community section. Anyone looking for a five year old pitbull? The dog looks so sad in the picture:(

Google Docs

I think Google Docs is very useful to learn, it pretty much has everything you want all in the same place. It is also nice that it helps with backing up and sharing files.

At first it took some getting use to but once I get the hang of it... I think I will really use this tool.

What's a Wiki?

Wikipedia and wikis are an interesting research tool, in the fact that anyone can add information to it however, it might not be 100% accurate. I know I am a big fan of Wikipedia, I use it a lot
when I want to research a topic quickly, but it may not always be the most accurate information.

I found this source useful for librarians... you can find a lot of information on their such as program ideas, library jobs, reader advisory, etc. however, not all the information on their is up to date, some of the pages have not been modified since 2007.
